The Parlour brings pizza and more to Yaletown

Italian-inspired comfort food is the best way to describe the dishes coming out of the kitchen at The Parlour (1011 Hamilton Street). At a media preview on January 29, guests dined on hefty meatball sliders, slices of pizza, and spoonfuls of salmon tartare while sipping on glasses of Roaring 20’s malbec—one of seven wines on tap.

The restaurant is owned by Paul Rivas, who was previously general manager at La Bodega, and brothers Sean and Chris Holland, who both worked for Cactus Club. The Parlour combines their interests in cocktails and craft beer, handmade pizzas, and modern comfort food. The setting is spacious and energetic, with a long reclaimed-wood bar and DJ station greeting customers up front, and an open kitchen complete with a custom-built Wood Stone pizza oven near the back of the restaurant.

The menu at The Parlour is filled with dishes perfect for sharing. Items are priced between $5 and $18, with bacon and lager mussels, burrata, and a cheese and charcuterie board the most expensive dishes on the list. Solo diners can also choose from one of four sandwiches ($10), which include a classic beef dip and a vegetarian-friendly Portobello, red pepper, and avocado sandwich.

All pizzas, which are oval shaped and sliced into eight slices, are $17. Standouts from the list of 12 pies include the aromatic Goldmember, topped with carmelized onions, mushrooms, potato, gruyere, mozzarella, and truffle oil; the slightly sweet #Swag, made with ricotta, roasted peppers, kalamata olives, carmelized onions, roasted garlic, and drizzled with honey; and the surprisingly fresh Yaletown, which comes with albacore tuna, red and green onions, avocado, cilantro, and spicy aioli.

At the bar, along with wines on tap and by the bottle, diners will find seven beers on tap, including a lager from Vancouver’s Coal Harbour Brewing. Other beverages include bottles of international beer and custom-made cocktails.

That's an attractive dish well worth the premium! The pizza, though, looks burnt

Ummm ... with HST and a decent tip, the 8-slice pizzas are worth about $24 - or about $3 a slice. Gimme a break. 90% airy dough and 10% kitschy ingredients (truffle oil??!).

HST gone April 1st so there goes that line of reasoning... I have no problem paying 2-3 dollars for a good fresh slice with great ingredients. What are the better options? stumbling down granville street for a 99 cent slice thats been under a lamp for 2 hours? Can't wait to try the new place. Love seeing new places offer new options in this city.
