Troggs frontman Reg Presley dies at age 71
Reg Presley, lead singer of '60s British rock band the Troggs, died today at his home in Hampshire, England. He succumbed to a year-long battle with lung cancer and a number of strokes.
The Troggs are best known for their 1966 hit, "Wild Thing", which hit #2 on the British charts and went to Number One in the States.
The song was covered by everyone from Jimi Hendrix to the Divinyls, and featured a very simple but extremely catchy guitar riff.
Music producer Andrew Loog Oldham, who used to manage the Rolling Stones, tweeted: "R.I.P. reg presley of the troggs. a long time served in the rock trenches. always innovative."
Presley was 71 years old.
