Canadian authors get naked for literacy

    1 of 1 2 of 1

A new calendar will see literati like Angie Abdou and Yann Martel bare it all for literacy in 2014.

Developed by novelist Amanda Leduc and book blogger Allegra Young, the Bare It for Books project is using the idea of a nearly nude calendar to raise awareness of and support for the Canadian literary landscape.

Participating authors in the 2014 calendar include Angie Abdou (January), Trevor Cole (February), Farzana Doctor (March), Dave Bidini (April), Miranda Hill (May), Daniel MacIvor (June), Yasuko Thanh (July), Terry Fallis (August), Sachiko Murakami (September), Vincent Lam (October), Saleema Nawaz (November), and Yann Martel (December).

Although the calendar isn't on sale quite yet (you can purchase yours this October), you can contribute to the project's Indiegogo campaign and get yourself some sweet swag while you're at it.

it just goes to show you what being apart of the academic system brings you. literacy is a made up excuse to mistereat others and make themselves feel better. then it is also used to treat others badly.to come up with an idea such as this to help people makes me feel really sad. but shows me the truth of why i and others need to stay away from academic learning. so far i have seen it mostly used to step on people, to trick or abuse others. i am very sad and disapointed.

@mahogohney - It seems you have succeeded brilliantly at staying away from academic learning.

When people need $ & have nothing else to sell, they sell their bodies. Sex sells. Being naked for shock value is along the same theme. A good author writes interesting books people want to write. Naked authors seem to be doing this as a last resort to get noticed & hope someone will spend $ & read their book. It's not wild, edgy or spontaneus. It's desperation for attn & $. I feel sad for them.

@mahogohney You know what they say: "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...".

You can only be hurt by those that you allow to hurt you. Nobody is being hurt or exploited by this calendar. Stop painting all academics with the same brush please. Thanks! :)
