The Replacements cover—who else?—Gordon Lightfoot

You can get a load of the reunited Replacements driving their way through Gordon Lightfoot's "I'm Not Sayin'" over at Pitchfork

Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson got together in September to record a handful of tracks with Kevin Bowe (guitar) and Peter Anderson (drums)—a quasi-reunion that came about to aid former Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlop, who suffered a stroke earlier in the year.

The sessions resulted in the Songs for Slim E.P., which is available for download on March 5.

Besides a cover of Dunlop's own "Busted Up" (and another Dunlop cover, "Radio Hook Word Hit", from original 'Mats drummer Chris Mars), the E.P. also features Leon Payne's "Lost Highway", "Everything's Coming Up Roses", from the Broadway musical Gypsy (!), and Westerberg's fabulously raw take on the Lightfoot song, which first appeared on Gordo's 1966 self-titled debut.

Westerberg came to it via Nico's cover, making the Replacements the third in a triumvirate of heroic substance abusers to record the song. Bravo!

Here's the original, because IT NEVER GETS TIRED...
