TED talk: Wade Davis shares beautiful photos of Sacred Headwaters
TED talks like this one cost several thousand dollars to see in person. Luckily, this clip has just been posted on YouTube, so you and I can watch it for free.
In this February 2012 talk, ethnographer and National Geographic explorer-in-residence Wade Davis tells a Long Beach audience about the Sacred Headwaters region of northwestern B.C. At the time, the headwaters of the Nass, Skeena, and Stikine rivers, which lie in the territory of the Tahltan Nation, were threatened by Shell Canada's plans for coal-bed methane development in the area.
However, in December 2012, the B.C. government announced it had reached an agreement with Shell and the Tahltan Central Council, wherein Shell withdrew its plans and the province banned oil and gas development in the Sacred Headwaters.
