Greenback High says "Bombs Away" at the Astoria

Any band that has the bottle to namecheck Stiff Little Fingers in its bio better back that shit up.

And in this case, Greenback High does, which I suppose is what you should expect since it’s a kind of legacy fuck-band featuring one D.O.A. drummer (James Hayden) on vocals and another D.O.A. drummer (handsome JJ Heath), on, er, drums.

A moonlighting Jolt (Joshy Atomic-guitar) and a Vicious Cycle (Rob Wright-bass) complete the picture, and also explains why Greenback High kicks seven shades of classic punk shit out of the competition.

These men are experts in their respective fields, something that’s patently clear from chunky first 7-inch, “Bombs Away”, which sounds like it should have been the theme to an ahead-of-its-time kids TV show from the early ‘80s.

Joshy-sung B-side “All of Us or None”, meanwhile, comes on like a lost effort by the Jam before they went all fancy (a lyrical reference to “the mod cons” was the tip-off).

Any Jake Burns-loving permanent adolescent would and does approve.

Greenback High celebrates the release of “Bombs Away”, live and in-person, at the Astoria, tonight (March 1).

Not bad, but Stiff Little fingers they are not. More like a suped up John Cougar Mellencamp...
