The sixth annual Vancouver Serbian FilmFest takes place from March 12 to 15 at the Collingwood Cinemas (3215 Kingsway Street). This year’s festival includes seven feature, documentary, and short films over the course of four days.

The festival opens with Death of the Man in the Balkans on March 12 at 8 p.m. The feature-length drama directed by Miroslav Momcilovic follows what happens after a lonely composer commits suicide in his apartment. Death of the Man in the Balkans was awarded Best Film at the 25th annual Panorama of European Cinema Festival in Athens. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Death of the Man in the Balkans actor Natasa Ninkovic starting at 10 p.m.

The next day, Ginger: More than a Game—Story of Radivoj Korac will be shown at 7 p.m. and Artillery will follow at 8:40 p.m. Ginger documents the life of basketball player Radivoj Korac up until his tragic death, while Artillery tells the fictional story of two friends and a football team.

On March 14, short film “Run-Up” will start at 7:30 p.m., followed by Redemption Street at 8:15 p.m. “Run-Up” by director Miroslav Stamatov is about two actresses going to a film festival. Meanwhile, Redemption Street is a thriller about a young prosecutor who is handling the investigation of war crimes. Actor Uliks Fehmiu won Best Actor at the Sarajevo Film Festival for his role in the film.

The final day of the festival will feature two film screenings, a Q&A and the closing ceremony. Walter, a documentary by filmmaker Andrej Acin about legendary Yugoslav war hero Vladimir Peric Valter, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the director. Following the closing ceremony, Practical Guide to Belgrade with Singing and Crying will conclude the festival.

Tickets start at $16.50 and can be purchased online in advance, or at the door before the screenings.
