NDP’s John Horgan compares B.C. Liberals to Supertramp album “Crisis”

The NDP Opposition house leader has painted an amusing picture of the B.C. Liberal’s current state in the legislature.

"I don't know if you remember Supertramp, but they had a great album cover called "Crisis? What Crisis?" back in the '70s,” said John Horgan in a telephone interview yesterday (March 4). “It's just a great cover shot of a guy sitting in a lawn chair with a beach umbrella, and all around him is rubble from what appears to be a nuclear explosion. That is sort of what the B.C. Liberal caucus looks like these days. Every day is a new opportunity for them to get things wrong, it seems.”

I was reminded of Horgan’s comment on my way into work this morning (March 5). Around 8 a.m., CKNW reported that Premier Christy Clark might still go ahead with a public apology for the Chinese head tax, likely toward the end of the month.

In sum: the political party currently being slapped around the ring for strategizing to score “quick wins” via apologies to ethnic minorities is contemplating a public apology to an ethnic minority group. And they might do that in a month or so, ensuring that the media and public continue to skewer the party for its appalling “Multicultural Strategic Outreach Plan” that leaked in late February.

With several high-profile MLA’s planning on retiring this summer, you begin to wonder how many have already checked out and are content to watch the B.C. Liberal Party crumble around them.

Politics aside, the Crisis? What Crisis? album by Supertramp is one of my all time favorites and what a most memorable cover! I saw Roger Hodgson, co-founder of the band, at his two sold out shows in Vancouver the past August. Best concerts I have ever been to, and I've seen just about everyone! Roger's voice sounds even better today than on my Supertramp vinyls and what a thrill it was for me to see him perform some of my favorite songs such as Give a Little Bit, Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, and so many more. I can't wait to see him again this year. .
