Swedish electro-weirdness duo the Knife released a video today for "A Tooth for an Eye", a track from the forthcoming album Shaking the Habitual. And while the lyrics speak of class disparity ("Look what we have got/And those who haven't/Bad luck"), the video, directed by Roxy Farhat and Kakan Hermansson, addresses gender roles by having a young girl lead a group of adult men in a choreographed dance routine. According to a statement issued along with the video, it "deconstructs images of maleness, power and leadership"; the girl "allows the men to let go of their hierarchies, machismo and fear of intimacy, as they follow her into a dance".

In truth, I'm not sure I get all that from a bunch of amateur hoofers sweating it out in a gymnasium, but maybe that's just me.
