The Georgia Straight presents Booka Shade at the Commodore
Live Nation has announced that Berlin-based electronic music duo Booka Shade will perform at the Commodore Ballroom--with guest Robert DeLong-- on Tuesday, April 16.
Arno Kammermeier and Walter Merziger, aka Booka Shade, began as electric-pop group Planet Claire in Saarbruecken, Germany. By the mid 1990s, bored with formulaic club music, they decided to start working as movie-soundtrack composers and producers-for-hire, writing pop hits for German major labels.
"Before we didn't give a shit," says Kammermeier, of their time as pop producers. "Now, every note counts."
In 2002, Booka Shade moved to Berlin to help form production house/label Get Physical Music. As well as putting out its own albums, the duo has lent its production magic to the likes of Depeche Mode, Moby, Yello, Hot Chip, Roxy Music, Kings Of Leon, Tiga, Dave Gahan, and the Knife.
Tickets for the show are priced at $30 (plus service charges and fees), with limited early bird tickets at $25 (plus service charges and fees), and go on sale this Friday (March 15) at 10 a.m. on the Live Nation website.
Tickets will also be available for purchase at Beat Street and Highlife Records, and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
