UBC Bookstore at Robson Square to close
Vancouver is losing yet another bookstore.
The UBC Bookstore at Robson Square is scheduled to shut down on March 26.
A decreased need for textbooks at UBC Robson Square is listed as the primary reason for the closure on the UBC Bookstore website.
What will also be lost is the Robson Reading Series, which ran for over a decade. The series, which hosted literary talents such as Annabel Lyon, Wayson Choy, Lynn Coady, C.E. Gatchalian, Esi Edugyan, Timothy Taylor, Carmen Aguirre, and Evelyn Lau, will end with the bookstore.
This demise of the Robson Square bookstore follows the closure of the UBC Robson Square Library, which officially ended operating on August 31, 2012.
However, all is not lost. The three other UBC Bookstore locations—at the Point Grey campus, the Okanagan campus, and the Sauder School of Business (Point Grey campus)—will remain open, in addition to their online store.
What's more, the main Point Grey campus location is expanding to include a convenience store, study areas, a larger cafe, and expanded gift and clothing sections. Construction, which began in February, is expected to be completed by the fall of this year.
