Dogwood Initiative ads aim to sink oil pipeline and tanker proposals

B.C. is our home, so imagine the province as a house. That's what the Dogwood Initiative is doing ahead of the B.C. election in May.

The Victoria-based nonprofit's No Tankers campaign has released a series of five videos depicting a family whose father has okayed the building of an oil pipeline through their abode. In light of pipeline proposals from Enbridge and Kinder Morgan, Dogwood says the goal is to get British Columbians talking about the threat of more oil tankers on the B.C. coast.

As for where politicians stand on this issue, Dogwood notes in a news release today (March 19):

As of right now, the Green Party and Independent MLA Bob Simpson oppose all expansion of oil tanker traffic on B.C.’s coast, while the NDP oppose Enbridge’s proposal for the Great Bear Rainforest, but have not taken a position on Kinder Morgan’s proposal to bring hundreds of oil tankers to our south coast. The B.C. Conservatives are in favour of both the Enbridge and Kinder Morgan proposals, while the B.C. Liberals are still on the fence with both.

Dogwood doesn't mention a third proposal, by the Vancouver Airport Fuel Facilities Corporation, which would bring tankers to the Fraser River.
