The saddest pandas in the world?

    1 of 4 2 of 4

Poor pandas. Er Shun and Da Mao have been sentenced to five years in the Toronto Zoo, followed by another five years in the Calgary Zoo. And now they've been met at the airport by Stephen Harper.

“It is a great honour to be entrusted with Er Shun and Da Mao, two of China’s national treasures,” Canada's prime minister gloated in a news release today (March 25). “Their presence in Canada today and for the next ten years will remind us of the strong relationship between our countries and will delight the many Canadians who will visit the zoos to see them.”

If the giant pandas survive their 10-year stay in Canada, they'll be sent back to China. Just when they've gotten used to the Canadian winter.

This is VERY disturbing to me. Harper's love affair with China is possibly putting these two gentle creatures at risk. What a shame on my country mr. harper.

Words cannot express my heartfelt sadness for all beings in captivity. A zoo is a prison I would never visit because of the overwhelming tragedy I feel for beings forced to live in an artificial environment.

Canada is indeed in troubled waters under the Harper regime.

This is my prayer to the unhappy pandas.

May all beings be happy, healthy and free. May the happiness, health and freedom of our lives, contribute to the happiness, health and freedom for all beings.
