Well played, Biebs, well played

In an astonishing move that suggests maybe he has a sense of humour after all, Justin Bieber pranked his arch-nemesis TMZ yesterday, April Fool's Day.

According to Billboard, the child star-turned-media whipping-boy (man) turned the tables on his tormentors by tweeting to his almost 37 million followers: "as promised taking all fan phone calls TODAY at (888) 847 9869. Talk to u soon!"

The phone number is TMZs tip line.

Bieber sent out a second tweet shortly afterwards. The original tweet was deleted after not too long, but considering the frenzied zeal of Bieber's fans, I'm sure he got his point across.

TMZ is playing it classy: it hasn't acknowledged the prank and still lists the same number.

Everyone seems to be missing the fact that the joke was on his fans, too. I wonder if any of them mind that their idol used them as pawns in the world's dumbest war?

I wonder how long (and how many glasses of vino) it took for the author of this story to find a way to blame Bieber for what was obviously a simple and harmless April Fool's joke on TMZ?

"The joke was on his fans"? "Their idol used them"? "The world's dumbest war"?

      Gawd, what catty nonsense.

Don't like Bieber's music? Cool, neither do I. But unlike Stacy Thomas, I don't prance around poking snooty, arrogant, malicious fun at the human who produces that music.

      Sad.
