International Children’s Book Day poll sees Harry Potter come out on top

Initiated by discount booksellers The Works, an International Children’s Book Day poll has seen Harry Potter come out as the most popular children’s-book character in Britain (as chosen by children), beating out perennial favourites like the Gruffalo and the Cat in the Hat.

Parents (who also took part in the survey) voted Roald Dahl as their favourite children’s-book author, with Enid Blyton coming in second and J.K. Rowling coming in third.

The Works chief executive officer Kevin Keaney says "it's great to see classic children's books and characters are still holding favour with kids throughout Britain, with parents' own preferences presumably swaying their little ones' reading habits.”

Thankfully, Keaney goes on to say that “more than half (51%) of the parents polled said their children read the same books as they did, showing tastes haven't changed and classics remain popular.”
