      Rowing crew rescued  Olympic gold medallist Adam Kreek of Victoria and his three crewmates—Markus Pukonen, Jordan Hanseen, and Pat Fleming—didn't reach their goal of rowing from Africa to North America. That's because their vessel capsized near Puerto Rico. They were rescued after their boat couldn't self-correct itself.

      Hells Angels ride  The Vancouver Police Department issued a news release declaring that about 100 Hells Angels went on a group ride yesterday from their East End chapter clubhouse through Burnaby. According to the VPD, the bikers wanted to send a message to their rivals.

      Canucks defeat Flames  Calgary put on a good show at Rogers Arena last night, but Cory Schneider's superior netminding and a rather leaky Mikka Kiprusoff resulted in a 5-2 Canucks' victory.

      Canada's Davis Cup marathon  Vasek Pospisil and Daniel Nestor defeated Italians Daniele Bracciali and Fabio Fognini 15-13 in the fifth set of a Davis Cup doubles match yesterday at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. If Canadian Milos Raonic defeats Andreas Seppi in a men's singles match today, Canada will advance to the semifinals of the Davis Cup for the first time.

      Bollywood glitter in Vancouver  Indian cinema A-listers Shahrukh Khan, Abishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, and numerous other Bollywood actors, directors, and producers walked the red carpet at B.C. Place last night for the Times of India Film Awards. Premier Christy Clark has defended an $11.5-million provincial subsidy because the event will expose B.C. to a vast televised audience in India.

      B.C. NDP nominates trustee  Former teacher Sam Hancheroff has been nominated as the B.C. NDP candidate in Boundary-Similkameen, which is represented by independent John Slater. Hancheroff, a trustee, was chosen after Marji Basso stepped down as the NDP candidate, citing personal reasons.

      Trudeau expected to win  Federal Liberals have begun voting yesterday for their new leader after all the candidates gave speeches in Toronto. The new leader, widely expected to be Papineau MP Justin Trudeau, will be announced next Sunday (April 14).

      RBC hires foreign workers  CBC News has reported that dozens of workers have lost their job at Canada's largest bank because they're being replaced by temporary foreign workers. This comes two days after Statistics Canada reported that the national unemployment rate jumped from 7 to 7.2 percent between February and March.

      NATO air strike kills kids  The BBC has reported that up to 12 civilians—10 children and two women—were killed inside their homes in a NATO air strike in eastern Afghanistan. Another six women may be injured.

      Pastor's son dies  One of America's most famous preachers, Rick Warren, has revealed that his 27-year-old son Matthew committed suicide. Warren was the pastor at the 2008 inauguration of President Barack Obama.

      Royal baby has a due date  The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, has revealed to reporters that she and Prince William's first baby is due in mid-July, adding "but apparently babies have their own agenda".
