The world's greatest rock guitarist wows 'em at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival

Jeff Beck, the world's greatest living rock guitarist, performed over the weekend at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival, which took place at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Here's some fan-shot footage of the Beckster doing his thing on "You Know You Know" a tune composed by another guitarist that some folks might argue is the best ever: John McLaughlin. (The song was originally released on the 1971 Mahavishnu Orchestra album, The Inner Mounting Flame.)

The two-day festival featured a cavalcade of six-string wizards, and was opened by Louisiana slide master Sonny Landreth, who played the Electric Owl three months back.

Chances are that Landreth experienced another favourite Crossroad Festival moment when he performed with fellow bottleneck virtuoso Derek Trucks.

At one point host Clapton brought out a few of his friends--Robert Cray, Jimmie Vaughan, and B.B. King--for a jam on "Every Day I Have the Blues". The video's a bit of a jumbled mess--as most YouTube concert clips are--but hey, I'll take Stevie Ray's big bro any way I can get him!

I read the headline Newt, but I don't see Jimmy Page anywhere.

You don"t see Page's name because he's a pretentious phony.

That's a little harsh, don'tcha think? Haven't you heard Physical Graffiti?

      Steve,
Thanks for calling Beck the World's greatest living, my sentiments exactly. And as well for Johnny Mac kind words. Also my opinion as far as speed goes and just general WOW factor. BUT I have to give you grief in an unrelated matter.
Just saw Prince last night and Joe Bonamassa last week. For you to even mention Joe in the same breath as Prince is a joke. Never mind the fact you left Prince off the top 100 list and had high praise for Joe. Prince is 1,000 times the player Joe is. Go tonite and you will see for yourself. He is channelling Jimi on this tour.

Sorry, meant for 'anyone' to mention them in the same breath. Do not think you specifically did so.

Actually I thought Beck was having a pretty off night when I was there. I love Beck but he definitely wasn't what "wow'd" me that night.

your loss. I have seen over 1,200 concerts and last night was top 10 Ever. And I am a guitar freak like you. If you knew how amazing it was you would be kicking yourself for missing it....for the rest of your life.
