Dumped NDP candidate has "nothing to say" about hateful comments

Dayleen Van Ryswyk was unceremoniously booted off the B.C. NDP train today (April 16) after the Kelowna-Mission candidate's disgusting online postings about First Nations and French Canadians came to light.

The B.C. Liberals sent her comments to the media early on the first day of official campaigning, seemingly catching NDP Leader Adrian Dix by surprise at his first stop of the day. You can read Van Ryswyk's postings from 2009 in full on Castanet.

While Van Ryswyk resigned (the B.C. Liberals say she should have been fired), no apology for the comments was released by her party on her behalf. Indeed, no public "I'm sorry" is found on the former candidate's website and Twitter and Facebook pages, at time of writing. (Although her Facebook cover and profile photos were updated a couple of hours ago—to a beach sunset, and a cat and a dog.)

Then there's this CTV News video. Perhaps Van Ryswyk is just waiting for some PR experts to help her out big time—or her views haven't changed and she's not sorry at all.

Her views are commonplace in B.C. She is probably sorry that she posted them online, but not sorry about holding them.

Reminds me of my wife, a Francophone who could speak English without any trace of an accent. This would result in many "amusing" situations where somebody would launch into a typically ignorant anti-French tirade, assuming that she was English and would share the ranter's opinion.

My wife would usually reply "en Francais", causing great consternation (and often a deeply red face).
