The CBC has announced that senior executive Kirstine Stewart is leaving the public broadcaster for Twitter Canada.

Stewart was appointed the executive vice-president of English-language services in 2011. A recruitment process has been launched to find a replacement.  Her responsibilities will be assumed on an interim basis by Neil McEneaney, general manager of finance and strategy.

"I've had some of the happiest moments in my life at the CBC, and I've been honoured to represent such an important name to Canadians,” Stewart said in a news release. “I'm proud of what we've done together these past 7 years. I will miss the CBC family dearly, but I know that even when one leaves the CBC, the CBC never really leaves you. It's in my DNA and I'm all the better for it.”

Stewart will become the new managing director of the new Twitter Canada. Twitter revenue chief Adam Bain tweeted the news on Monday (April 29).

The San Francisco–based social media service also announced job openings for an account executive and account manager for Toronto.
