Transgender model Jenna Talackova to star in reality TV series

It's official: Vancouver transgender model Jenna Talackova is getting her own reality TV series.

As you might remember, Talackova garnered intense international attention and media coverage—not to mention controversy—in 2012 when she was disqualified and removed from the Miss Universe Canada pageant for being born physically male.

However, she not only won her high-profile fight to be reinstated but pageant organizers also changed rules to include transgender contestants. Although she didn't win the competition, she was named Miss Congeniality and won a victory for transgender equality.

Bell Media announced in a news release on Friday (May 3) that Talackova will star in her own eight-episode, 30-minute show on E! Canada, with the working title Brave New Girl.

The series will follow Talackova (with appearances by her family and friends) in her move from Vancouver to Toronto as she pursues career opportunities in modelling, TV, and fitness.

Production on the show will begin in the summer, and the show will debut in the fall.

Talackova had informed the Georgia Straight at the official launch of Vancouver Pride Week 2012 that she had been working on creating a TV show. Shaw Media had previously made a statement that it would be broadcasting a reality TV show about Talackova but later backtracked and dismissed the statement as a misunderstanding.
