Canucks start Cory Schneider in attempt to stave off playoff elimination

Despite getting the hook after allowing five goals on 28 shots in Sunday's third straight loss to the San Jose Sharks, Cory Schneider will get the start in goal tonight (May 7) as the Canucks look to extend their season.

Head coach Alain Vigneault has decided to give Schneider the chance to redeem himself after his sub-par performance in the third period two nights ago when he was ventilated for three Sharks goals in a two and a half minute span. It was Schneider's first start in two weeks after being held out of the lineup with a mysterious injury that still hasn't been revealed.

Schneider looked rusty on Logan Couture's wrist shot off left wing that found the back of the net and opened the floodgates of Sharks scoring. That goal made it 3-1 early in the third and stood up as the game winner.

It's now or never for Schneider and the Canucksand almost certainly the end of the line for Vigneault should the Sharks complete the sweep tonight.

So ... let me get this straight. Luongo has two excellent performances against the Sharks, Schneider has a melt-down (and has to be pulled), and Vigneault starts ... Schneider?

Vigneault has many strengths, but knowing what it takes to win isn't one of them.
