Skylark Music and Christ Church Cathedral presents three concerts featuring Brahms’ chamber music. All concerts will feature Jane Coop on piano and Darrett Adkins on cello. Cris Inguanti will join on clarinet on May 21 at 8 p.m., and Laurie Smukler will be featured on violin on May 23 at 8 p.m. and May 26 at 3 p.m. All three concerts will take place at Christ Church Cathedral (690 Burrard Street)

Pianist Jane Coop has wanted to present a concert featuring the music of Johannes Brahms for a long time. “The chamber music of Brahms is, in my opinion, one of the most thrilling and moving bodies of work in all of Western music,” Coop stated in a news release. “Both performer and listener inevitably come away from a Brahms experience with a rich sense of the highest human endeavour, to say nothing of being touched at the deepest emotional level.”

Coop has invited three distinguished chamber musicians to join her onstage: Smukler and Adkins from New York and Inguanti from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Each concert includes a different program. On May 21, the program includes performances of Klavierstrücke; Op. 76, Sonata in F minor for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 120, No. 1; and Trio in A minor for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano, Op. 114.

On May 23, the program includes performances of Klavierstrücke, Op. 76; Sonata in F major for Cello and Piano, Op. 99; and Trio in C minor for Violin, Cello, and Piano, Op. 101. The final concert on May 26 will feature Rhapsody in B minor, Op. 79, No. 1; Sonata in D minor for Violin and Piano, Op. 108; and Trio in C major for Violin, Cello, and Piano, Op. 87.

Tickets for individual concerts are $30 and a three-concert pass is $75. Tickets can be purchased online or by phone at 1-877-840-0457.
