Father John Misty launches perfume, releases new video

You could easily make an argument that the world doesn't need yet another celebrity-endorsed scent. You could also argue that Josh Tillman isn't actually a celebrity, but that's beside the point. The point is, anyone who buys a bottle of perfume because it has the image of Britney Spears or Paris Hilton or Justin Bieber connected with it is a sucker.

There was a glimmer of hope in the celebrity-stank game when Lady Gaga announced that she was concocting an eau de parfum redolent of blood and semen, presumably her own. Sadly, by the time Lady Gaga Fame hit the market last summer, it reeked more of orchids and honey than of the Mommy Monster's secretions.

According to the company marketing it, Sanae Intoxicants, Tillman's fragrance, "Innocence" by Misty, "has pure botanical fragrances of Sweet Orange Oil, Tunisian Neroli, Mimosa Absolute, Violet Absolute, Jasmine Grand, Bourbon Vanilla, and Linden Blossom". Somone at Sanae sure likes to capitalize things, huh? Oh, and it's for women, because in Father John Misty's world, no man is innocent. Or words to that effect.

"Innocence" by Misty. Let's hope it doesn't smell like Father John Misty's tour van.

Anyhow, don't bother rushing out to your favourite retailer to pick some up for the woman in your life. "Innocence" is being released in a limited edition of 300 15mL bottles, available exclusively through Sanae Intoxicants' website.

If you're skeptical that this is a real thing, perhaps the following behind-the-scenes peek will convince you:

In related news, Father John Misty has just released a video for "Funtimes in Babylon", the opening track from his excellent 2012 album Fear Fun. In it, Tillman wanders around the rubble of a plane-crash site that will look strangely familiar to anyone who has seen Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds.
