At Showtime, it's lights out for The Borgias

Get ready to say goodbye to Lucrezia, Cesare, and the deliciously sensual Pope Alexander VI, because the last episode of Showtime's Renaissance-era costume drama The Borgias will air on June 16.

After filming a pivotal scene in the final few episodes of the current season, Borgias creator Neil Jordan told Deadline that "this feels like the end of something, that the family has come to an end.”

And while Jordan originally envisioned wrapping up the Jeremy Irons-starring show in a two-hour movie event, that plan was scrapped due to budgetary concerns.

Certainly a shame, because in the special conclusion Jordan said that viewers would have seen "the Pope dying and no one willing to hear his confession. When they finally find a confessor and the Pope starts to repent his sins, the confessor interrupts him, saying, ‘I’m sorry, it’s too late, you’re already dead and burning in hell.’”

I know I'll be watching on June. 16. Will you?
