Théâtre la Seizième and the Alliance Française of Vancouver present Stupeur et tremblements at Studio 16 (1545 West 7th Avenue) from February 17 to 20. Performances start at 8 p.m. each evening, with a 4 p.m. matinée on Saturday.

Stupeur et tremblements is a play by Amélie Nothomb that tells the story of a young Belgian woman who returns to Japan, the country where she grew up. As she tries to integrate back into life in her adopted country, she quickly discovers, at her own expense, the implacable rigidity of her employer, as well as the codes of conduct that govern social life in the land of the rising sun.

The play will be performed in French with English surtitles. Tickets are $21 to $28 and can be purchased online or by phone at 604-736-2616 in advance.
