Actor Emile Hirsch, who has acted in roughly 20 major features, most of them shit, has been busted after he allegedly choked Paramount executive Daniele Bernfeld during a party at the Sundance Film Festival.

According to TMZ, an intoxicated Hirsch verbally harassed Bernfeld (calling her a “rich kid”) before putting her in a chokehold and then dragging her across a table and onto the floor. Bernfeld told Park City police that “she remembers things going dark.”

Today, Hirsch was charged with third degree felony aggravated assault and is due in court on March 16. He faces up to five years in prison.

Rumours of the “fight” have been floating around since it happened at the Tao Nightclub in Park City, Utah, in the early hours of January 25. On January 28, Heavy.com reported: “[Hirsch] pushed Dani up against a table, and then put her in a headlock.”

Hirsch is probably best known for his roles in Into the Wild, Killer Joe, and Speed Racer, although not really. As head of Paramount’s digital Insurge division, Bernfeld was profiled in Hollywood Reporter’s most recent round-up of people you probably shouldn’t beat on if you want any kind of film career.

      Shawn:

The same way the Middle East is relevant to Vancouver: as news.
Except this is far more entertaining, albeit nowhere near as important.
