The Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art has appointed a new curator.

On April 13, Beth Carter will join the gallery as curator, working with Kwiaahwah Jones, who has been a consulting curator at the gallery since 2010.

“We are excited that Beth Carter will join our curatorial team,” Alexandra Montgomery, the director and CEO of the gallery, said in a statement.

“Together Beth and Kwi will ensure that our programs continue to reflect the unique perspectives of First Nations and other peoples who call the Northwest Coast home.”

Carter’s background in traditional and contemporary Northwest Coast art includes acting as curator of Indigenous Studies at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, where she was responsible for the Northwest Coast collections.

She has been the director and curator at the Nikkei National Museum in Burnaby since 2009.
