      Student's death ruled accidental  UBC student Elisa Lam's February drowning in a water tank atop Los Angeles's Cecil Hotel has been deemed an accidental death.

      Richmond woman goes missing  A 77-year-old Richmond senior, Lai Mok, has vanished since last being seen on June 14. She's 5'3", 90 pounds, and suffers from loss of memory.

      Michael Jackson rarely slept  Harvard Medical School sleep expert Dr. Charles Cziesler has testified that Michael Jackson did not experience Rapid Eye Movement—which is seen as real sleep—in the two months leading up to his death. He attributed this to the propofol injections administered by Dr. Conrad Murray. The comments came in the wrongful-death trial of concert promoter AEG Live.

      Senate candidate highlights lululemon  Gabriel Gomez, a Republican running for a U.S. Senate seat from Massachussetts, has bragged on his website that he "helped grow smaller, regional businesses into national, household names—like apparel company Lululemon". The only problem is that lululemon athletica is a Vancouver-based corporation.

      Brazil's cabinet discusses crisis  The president of Brazil, Dilma Roussef, has reportedly summoned her cabinet for an emergency meeting in the wake of nationwide protests. The populace is enraged over transit-fare increases, as well as corruption in connection with the staging of the 2014 World Cup.

      Nicaraguan canal?  A Hong Kong-based company, the HKND Group, is examining the possibility of building a canal through Nicaragua to rival the Panama Canal. According to a Reuters story, no route has been determined.

      Celebrating National Aboriginal Day  At Trout Lake Community Centre Park, there will be a free community five-kilometre run and walk at 2 p.m. to celebrate National Aboriginal Day in Vancouver.
