In a surprise decision, a B.C.-bred beagle has been named Best in Show at this year's Westminster Dog Show.

Four-year-old Miss P was awarded the title yesterday (February 17) at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The 15-inch beagle formally known as Tashtins Lookin For Trouble is co-owned by Enderby's Lori and Kaitlyn Crandlemire and American Eddie Dziuk. Her handler, Will Alexander, said of the quiet, patient canine, "She is a princess."

She took home the top nod over almost 3,000 entrants, including crowd favourites like Swagger, an old English sheepdog, and Matisse, a Portuguese water dog and cousin to Barack Obama's dog, Sunny.

This adorable pup is only the second beagle to win the dog world's most venerated trophy; her grand-uncle Uno was the first back in 2008.

Miss P enjoys a celebratory lunch at Sardi's in New York City.
