While many of Vancouver’s food trucks are congregating at Food Cart Fest every Sunday until the end of September, up to 20 food carts will be heading to New Westminster for the city’s inaugural Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest on August 10.

Organized by the City of New Westminster, Downtown New Westminster BIA, and real estate development project Trapp + Holbrook, the event will feature street food, a beer garden, and live entertainment on Columbia Street between 4th and 6th streets.

Confirmed food trucks that will be attending include Aussie Pie Guy, Beljam’s Waffles, Caslinga Carts, Holy Perogy, Guanaco Truck, JJ’s Trucketeria, and Kaboom Box.

The Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest takes places between 3 and 9 p.m. and admission is free.

Look out Columbia Street-anywhere there are food carts-there is lots of garbage and litter from one time use food containers being thrown around.
Plus the food tends to be greasy, high fat and not very good for you.

Food carts-bad for the environment and bad for your heart.
      Stay away.

Not all food trucks are greasy and bad for your heart. It is part of the pre-req's from the City of Vancouver that food trucks/carts source their ingredients locally as much as possible and to also be as healthy as possible. Food trucks have come a long ways and if anyone hasn't tried them, really should give it a try. The quality of the food is very high, and gourmet.

As for the containers, most food trucks use recyclable serving containers and do usually provide their own garbage cans and recycling bins. It is not the food trucks fault if some customers choose to be irresponsible and toss their garbage on the streets/sidewalks.

I am looking forward to the city’s inaugural Columbia StrEAT Food Truck Fest. I'm sure it will be a huge success!!
