It's Oscar half time

I kept it to myself, but I guessed the winner for best visual effects (Interstellar).

More importantly (and provably), I fumbled on best animated feature. The statue went to Big Hero 6, which Craig Takeuchi liked but Kim Linekin didn’t

Grand Budapest Hotel took its third award of the night for production design, which any dumbass should have seen coming.

Exactly as I demanded in my astonishing clairvoyant fugue of two days ago, Birdman gave Gravity DP Emmanuel Lubezki his second Oscar win in a row for best cinematography.

Tom Cross took the award for best editing (Whiplash), making it the second off the night’s awards that  I wiped out on (it should have gone to Boyhood). I think the Academy was intoxicated by those satanic rhythms, which is understandable.

The Macakademy wanted Citizenfour for best documentary, but I can’t lie: I figured the Hollywood maids would go for Last Days in Vietnam

Nice to see that Citizenfour director Laura Poitras  (standing side-by-side with journalist Glenn Greenwald) managed to talk about Edward Snowden without getting rushed off by the orchestra.

Common and John Legend’s best song win for the brazenly manipulative “Glory” (from Selma) should have been an obvious choice, but I was wrong again. And I’m glad, because hearing the uncomfortable silence that greeted Legend’s statement (“We live in the most incarcerated country in the world”) just made my heart beat a little faster. Stick that up your standing ovation, Honkywood!
