For the most part, the screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey has been greeted by negative reviews.

But the Vancouver-lensed tale of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele remains a hit with audiences, racking up an estimated $23.3 million at the domestic box office this past weekend, according to Rentrak.

That puts it well in front of Kingsman: The Secret Service ($17.5 million), Spongebob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water ($15.5 million), McFarland USA ($11.3 million), and The Duff ($11 million).

Fifty Shades also easily won the international box-office sweepstakes over the past weekend with an estimated $68.1 million in revenue. Kingsman: The Secret Service was second at $33 million internationally, according to Rentrak.

On its opening weekend, Fifty Shades generated nearly $100 million at the domestic and international box offices for Universal Pictures.
