Downtown Vancouver will be turned into a sea of pink on February 25 when hundreds of volunteers take to the streets to raise awareness about bullying.

The eighth annual antibullying Pink Shirt Day event will be held in front of London Drugs (710 Granville Street) from 7 to 9 a.m.

Special guests include Pink Shirt Day founder Travis Price, CKNW radio personality and Pink Shirt Day spokesperson Simi Sara, Surrey School District Safe Schools' Rob Rai, Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC president Carolyn Tuckwell, and more.

Volunteers, dressed in pink of course, will be selling buttons for donation.

The initiative started when two Nova Scotian students took action after they saw a fellow student being harassed by homophobic bullies for wearing a pink shirt in 2007.

The day, celebrated in B.C., is different from the Ottawa-based International Day of Pink on April 8, which is designed to address bullying, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, and transmisogyny.

The U.N. declared May 4 as the official antibullying day.

Bullying, n. Political discussion/speech which offends certain groups that have used violence and mass media to secure protection for themselves last century, who are terrified of open discussion of the consequences thereof. Also, formerly, criminal assaults, like dunking a nerd in a toilet. See Chocolate Swirlie.

Because nothing stops bullying like dressing up in pink and prancing around like an emasculated little pussy.
