Amanda Palmer drops her kimono in a feminist "fuck you" to the Daily Mail

Our favourite punk cabaret performer has long demonstrated a creative flair for giving the finger.

Amanda Palmer’s May 2009 performance of a ballad called “Please Drop Me” belongs on every rock magazine’s top 10 "greatest record label snubs of all time" list (watch it here).

Palmer’s latest lyrical “fuck you” is aimed at the U.K.’s Daily Mail.

The British newspaper recently dedicated a farcical amount of space to a mild nipple slip that occurred during Palmer’s June 29 performance at the 2013 Glastonbury Festival.

Palmer, who often (though never predictably) shares a bit of skin onstage, apparently found the Mail’s post—which began, “Amanda Palmer made a bit of a boob of herself”—a tad sexist.

Here’s a sample of what Palmer had to sing about it:

Dear Daily Mail, it’s so sad what you tabloids are doing
Your focus on debasing women’s appearances devolves our species of humans
But a rag is a rag and far be it from me to go censoring anyone, oh no
It appears that my entire body is currently trying to escape this kimono…
Dear Daily Mail, you misogynist pile of twats,
I’m tired of these baby bumps, vag flashes, muffin tops
      Where are the newsworthy cocks?
When Iggy or Jager or Bowie go shirtless, the news barely causes a ripple
      Blah blah blah feminist
      Blah blah blah gender shit
Blah blah blah oh my god! Nipple!

Enjoy the rest of Palmer’s thoughtfully irate waltz below.

I've never heard of her before but she seems to be rather unattractive and had best keep the kimono on. Kimono dropping is better left to the more lovely and more classy.. Rita McNeal never did that onstage.

Musically she's not bad and publicity stunts can work.

Spoken like a truly sexist, misogynist pig Billy Bones. Exactly the type she sings about and is making statements against. Good show!

You're thinking of the right person, honkytonky22, but that particular story was never actually true. All the musicians on her tour last year — and she played with a different set of local string and brass players in every city — were paid.
