Kristen Stewart's uncomfortable, awkward César Award acceptance speech

    1 of 2 2 of 2

Kristen Stewart became the first American to be nominated for and win a best actress award at 2015 César Awards, the French equivalent of the Oscars.

She co-starred with the luminous Juliette Binoche in Olivier Assayas' The Clouds of Sils Maria (scheduled for an April release in Vancouver).

Unfortunately, her acceptance speech proved to be rather uncomfortable. Nerves seemed to get the better of her from the minute she strode up to the podium and asked the presenter to put the award down because her hands were too sweaty.

That didn't go over so well. Nor did her attempt to speak en français. Nor did her rambling, bumbling, stammering speech.

Bonne chance watching the video all the way to the end.

She's set to star in another French film so perhaps we have another acceptance speech to look forward to. Oh, mon Dieu.

It's easy to sit in an armchair and analyse her speech out of context after the ceremony. I watched it live, and Kristen came across as endearing and humble (journalists from at least all the major French newspapers thought the same by the way). I do understand though that some people might feel nervous while watching Kristen, well, being very nervous.

As for her French, it makes me wonder whether you know any French at all, or are just trying to take stabs at her. Her accent was good, and so much better than what I, with very few exceptions, typically hear from Americans. She nailed the r:s for instance. But Kristen is a safe and easy target to criticise right? By the way, did you use an encyclopaedia for the French (because you really don't come across as very sincere)?

That presenter was a grade-A asshat.

She endears a lot of people to her because of her nerves and introverted nature.

this is a very rude article! if you knew anything about her you would know she is uncomfortable in settings like this! She seemed to be very surprised she won and it was a great honor for her! She said a few lines in French as an appreciation for the award! She was very nervous and several years earlier she had dropped an award on the ground and broke part of it and sure she didn't want to drop this one, especially in a foreign country! She was no more awkward in this speech then many many other winners in award shows! Tabloids always seem to give her crap continuously!! Just go pick on a fack actress not a humble sincere one!

@nena - just look at who has written the article. It's Craig Takeuchi. You have to set the bar very low when he's involved. He's the newspapers resident bitch.

I don't particularly like her as an actress and I don't condone her choices in her personal life, but for whatever reason, I find her awkwardness endearing. I used to think it was all an act, but she's just so genuinely uncomfortable that I can't help but like her.
