Heroin and alcohol are to blame for Cory Monteith’s death. The B.C. Coroners Service confirmed today (July 16) that the Canadian actor died of “mixed drug toxicity”, according to a news release.

Monteith’s body was found in a room at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel on July 13. According to the Vancouver Police Department, staff entered Monteith’s hotel room after he missed his check-out time. An autopsy, which included toxicological analysis, was performed on July 15.

The 31-year-old actor was born in Calgary and raised in Victoria. He started his acting career in Vancouver, appearing in television shows such as Smallville, Supernatural, and Stargate Atlantis.

In 2009, Monteith was cast in his breakout role as Finn Hudson, a jock-turned glee-club member in Fox’s hit series Glee. Earlier this year, he voluntarily checked himself into a rehabilitation program for substance abuse.
