      Point Grey Road changes recommended  City of Vancouver staff have called for turning Point Grey Road into a one-way street eastbound between Alma and Waterloo streets and adding separated bike lanes between Jericho Beach Park and Alma Street. The staff also want separated bike lanes between Macdonald and Trafalgar streets.

      Skeena sockeye disappear  Fisheries and Oceans Canada has closed the commercial and recreational fisheries for Skeena River sockeye. Only 453,000 are forecast to return to the spawning grounds this year, down from 2.4 million last year.

      NDP focuses on multicultural outreach  In question period in the legislature, NDP Leader Adrian Dix highlighted an email showing "B.C. Liberal MLAs and B.C. Liberal partisan officials proposing to offer inducements for the silence of former staffer Sepideh Sarrafpour". The B.C. Liberal minister responsible for multiculturalism, Teresa Wat, responded that she can't understand why Dix "would like to refight the last election", and that the matter was "canvassed extensively in the House prior to the election".

      Dell vote delayed  Computer manufacturer Dell has put off a shareholders' vote on a $24-billion offer from its founder, Michael Dell, to take the company private. The move was opposed by major Dell shareholder Carl Icahn.

      Monsanto gives up on EU  The BBC has reported that biotech corporation Monsanto has abandoned a plan to win approval to grow its genetically modified maize, soybean, and sugar beets in Europe.

      Nelson Mandela's birthday  The first black president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, turns 95 today. He remains in a hospital with a lung infection.

      Japanese paper censored  Japan's second-largest newspaper, Asahi Shimbun, has been deleted from China's social-media platforms.

      This year's sockeye disaster on the Skeena should come as very good news to the federal government and Enbridge.

      Why should they fret about "accidentally" polluting the Skeena watershed with tar if the fish are done anyway?
