Get your ray guns, steampunk goggles, and Vulcan ears ready, because imagination-based entertainment channel Syfy is producing Heroes of Cosplay, a TV series that takes a surprisingly evenhanded look at cosplay culture.

In a press release Syfy describes the series as “a tantalizing docu-series that lifts the veil on the imaginative world of cosplay competition."

Viewers will get to follow nine cosplayers of all ability levels from neophyte to expert as they create costumes and personas and display them at conventions "in hopes of impressing the convention judges to win a cash prizes and take their cosplay stardom to new heights."

Heroes of Cosplay will be coming to a TV screen near you at 10:30 pm on August 13. For a sneak peek, check out the premiere trailer below.
