Abbotsford mayor plugs upcoming Alice Cooper show

It isn't every day that the leader of a Bible Belt community goes to bat for a shock-rock pioneer who came to fame singing songs about dead babies and the joys of necrophilia.

So it was a bit of a surprise to see a quote from Abbotsford mayor Bruce Banman included in the press release that went out today announcing the November 14 Alice Cooper concert at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

"Alice Cooper will certainly bring a unique energy to the AESC," says Banman in the promo bumph. "Alice is renowned for his stage presence and theatrics and I have no doubt he will entertain those in attendance."

I have no doubt that he will entertain those in attendance either, having seen the Coop in action several times over the years—including back in 2010 when he played the Coliseum with coheadliner Rob Zombie on the Gruesome Twosome Tour.

Banman wasn't exactly going out on a limb with his prediction, but that's cool. I did a little research and found out that he's actually got some music in him as well.

According to his official City of Abbotsford bio, apart from his family, "Bruce’s other great passion is singing. As an avid vocalist, Bruce enjoys the opportunity to exercise his singing abilities whenever possible."

Hey, maybe that means he'll hop up on stage and join the Coop in a rousing rendition of "Cold Ethyl".

Depends whether he wants to be "Elected" again or not, I suppose.

Tickets for the Cooper show go on sale this Friday (August 16) at 10 a.m. You can snag 'em right here.
