New Westminster to celebrate fourth annual Pride weekend

Have you sufficiently recovered from Vancouver Pride Week? Are you raring to go again?

Well, don't stash your rainbow flag away just yet—there's another smorgasbord of Pride celebrations in the Lower Mainland to take in.

New Westminster's fourth annual Pride festivities take place this weekend. Presented by the Royal City Pride Society, the 50 Shades of Pride 2013 Stonewall Dance gets the party started on Friday night (August 16) at the Metro Hall (759 Carnarvon Street).

After that, it's time to break out those heels that are (or aren't) made for walking for the annual Hills and Heels march on Saturday (August 17). The fundraising hike, starting at 12:15 p.m. at Army and Navy (502 Columbia Street) and heading up 6^th Street to City Hall for the official Pride proclamation (12:30 to 1 p.m.), will support the New Westminster Food Bank (non-perishable food items and cash donations will be collected).

The family-friendly Pride Festival in the Park, hosted by Q Hall of Fame inductee Barb Snelgrove and featuring vendors and entertainment, will run from 1 to 5 p.m. at Tipperary Park (4^th Street and Royal Avenue).

Pride Movie Night will feature a free screening of Mamma Mia! at New Westminster Pier Park (224 Front Street) at 9 p.m.

Sunday (August 18) will cap things off with a community brunch (10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) at the Met Bar and Grill (411 Columbia Street) and the interactive fundraiser Big Gay Sing, featuring the Vancouver Men's Chorus (2 p.m.) at the Columbia Theatre (530 Columbia Street).
