      B.C.'s high gas prices  The website GasBuddy.com found that locations in B.C. have the Top 10 retail gasoline prices in North America.

      Stanley Park thefts  Vancouver police issued a warning to people not to leave valuables in cars parked in Stanley Park. This came after 126 reported thefts from vehicles in the park this year.

      Bedroom dentist saw more patients  Affidavits filed in B.C. Supreme Court allege that Tung Sheng (David) Wu saw patients after he was warned by authorities to stop treating people in his home because he didn't have a dentist's licence. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

      Test fishery curtailed  The Pacific Salmon Commission has cut back its Fraser River test fishery because of low sockeye salmon returns. This run is the offspring of the collapsed 2009 Fraser River spawners. This year, sockeye are threatened by warm river temperatures, which elevate the risk of disease and cardiac arrest. 

      Skeena fishery closure applauded  The Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs says it supports the complete closure of the Skeena River fishery, citing declining salmon stocks.

      Jane Sterk will resign  The leader of the B.C. Greens, Jane Sterk, has announced over Twitter that she will step down as party leader at the party's annual general meeting on August 24.

      James Moore calls telcos dishonest  Industry Minister James Moore has claimed that telecommunications-company-backed messages against Verizon's entry into Canada are "dishonest attempts to skew debates via misleading campaigns".

      Pamela Wallin's travel expenses  An audit has determined that Sen. Pamela Wallin should repay $121,348 in travel expenses that she billed taxpyers, including $90,323 for non-Senate business.

      Harper's spin doctor quits  The director of communications in the prime minister's office, Andrew MacDougall, will leave his position in September to join MSLGROUP in England.

      National emergency in Egypt  According to a BBC report, Egyptian security forces say 95 people are dead following a crackdown on mass protests by supporters of deposed president Mohammed Morsi. The Muslim Brotherhood puts the death toll in the hundreds.

      CIA file on Chomsky  Foreign Policy's blog, The Cable, has revealed that the Central Intelligence Agency kept a file on Massachusetts Institute of Technology linguist and left-wing activist Noam Chomsky.

      Michael Jackson's ex-wife to testify  According to a TMZ report, Debbie Rowe will tell a jury today that singer Michael Jackson was misusing drugs in the 1990s. Concert promoter AEG is defending itself against a wrongful-death suit filed by Jackson's mother by claiming that the singer was irresponsible.
