      CONCERTS

      The Georgia Straight presents Juno-winning Vancouver singer-songwriter Dan Mangan (above) + Blacksmith at the Vogue Theatre, with guests Hayden and Astral Swans.

      The Rogue Folk Club presents Canadian musical-comedy group the Arrogant Worms at St. James Hall.

      Soundscape & Panospria present live performances of experimental, electronic, and improvised music by Coppice (Chicago), Holy Hum, Phonal, Ruhlmann & Clément and +Journeymann Trax (1080p). The concert, part of the Quiet City series, takes place at Skylight Gallery.

      The Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir presents a repertoire of folk songs, spirituals, show tunes, and Canadiana, with guests the De Danaan Irish Dancers. Event takes place at Christ Church Cathedral as part of CelticFest Vancouver.

      Kayhan Kalhor & Shujaat Husain Khan, aka Ghazal, perform Persian & Indian improvisations at West Van's Kay Meek Centre.

      The Georgia Straight presents local indie-soul band the Boom Booms at the Imperial.

      Local Stones-style rock band Rock & Roll Circus, featuring vocalist Christopher Woudsta and guitarist Scott Smith, plays a release party for new self-titled CD at New West's Heritage Grill.

      FORUMS

      At SFU Harbour Centre, Peyman Vahabzadeh gives a quick radical phenomenology of the concept of violence and shows the relationship between his tripartite concept of violence and human action.

      Singaporean sculptor Chong Fah Cheong delivers a lecture at UBC situating his art in the midst of many contemporary issues facing the city-state of Singapore.

      COMEDY

      Comedian Allyson Smith, who has shared the stage with the likes of Bob Saget and Samantha Bee, performs standup at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club.

      DANCE

      The three-day Urban Alchemy 6 festival showcases Vancouver's street-dance talent at Burnaby's Michael J. Fox Theatre.

      MUSIC

      The Vancouver Recital Society presents cellist Steven Isserlis and fortepianist Robert Levin in a performance of Beethoven's <i>The Complete Works for Cello and Keyboard</i> at the Vancouver Playhouse.

      Flute soloist Ryan Esau and the UBC Symphony Orchestra perform works by Barber and Beethoven at Chan Centre.

      John Morris Russell conducts vocalist Ann Hampton Callaway and the VSO in a tribute to Barbra Streisand at the Orpheum Theatre.

      Pianist Nelson Goerner performs music by Bach, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn at McGee Theatre
