Horny puppets earn another extension at the Arts Club

Apparently audiences can't get enough of puppet sex. That and gleeful renditions of such hummable ditties as "The Internet Is for Porn" and "I'm Not Wearing Underwear Today".

Avenue Q, the Arts Club show our reviewer called "one of the summer's biggest treats", just got an unheard-of new extension to September 14. Hey, that's well beyond the summer—pretty damn successful, when you consider the outrageous adult comedy was slated to close August 3. And if you're like me, you know a ton of people who never darken the doorstep of local theatres who have caught this naughty little show.

True, they may have been drawn by the vulgarity, but the musical ventures into some awfully relevant-to-today territory; let's just say there's a song called "What Do You Do with a B.A. in English?".

Yes, the show has had massive success since it debuted off-Broadway 10 years ago. Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx's musical has gone on to extended runs on Broadway and in London’s West End, and nabbed Tony awards along the way. But there's also a great cast in this local production at the Granville Island, one that has to act, sing its butt off, and manoeuvre puppets.

Just glad to see something with bite and wit—puppets or not—earning holdovers these days.
