      CONCERTS

      American folk-blues singer-songwriter Hurray for the Riff Raff (above) plays the Electric Owl, performing tunes from latest release Small Town Heroes.

      Beatles tribute show at the Queen E. Theatre charts the band's meteoric rise from their humble beginning in Liverpool's Cavern Club through the height of Beatlemania, and on to their later studio masterpieces.

      Canadian electronica duo the Funk Hunters plays the Commodore Ballroom, with guests Mat the Alien and Chali 2na. SOLD OUT.

      American a cappella band Home Free, known for winning NBC's The Sing Off's fourth-season championship, plays the Vogue Theatre. Note: moved from original venue of Rio Theatre.

      Newfoundland singer-songwriter Amelia Curran plays CBC Studio 700, with guest Ryan Boldt.

      Zakir Hussain’s Celtic Connections, featuring celebrated Indian tabla master Hussain, plays Chan Centre.

      Local acoustic-fingerstyle guitar wizard and singer-songwriter Don Alder plays the Rickshaw Theatre, with guest Lisa Joyce.

      BENEFITS

      Cabaret-style entertainment at North Van's Seymour Yacht Club by Banner Blues Band, Trevor Carolan, Michael Culverwell, John Lyon, Charlie Mackenzie, and the North Shore Chorus, with proceeds to the Seymour Art Gallery.

      Evening of art and performances at Heritage Hall raises money for the Bliss Project, which is helping to build a neighbourhood house in Sri Lanka.

      Multimedia display of alternative music, art, and performance at Studio East featuring Dan Solo, Michael Red, Austin Phillips, Commodity, Firewood Poetry, and Daniel Taylor.

      As part of the VOICE OVER mind Festival at the Western Front, experimental vocalist Tomomi Adachi transforms into a bionic performer and Ayelet Rose Gottlieb performs electric compositions.

      MUSIC

      Sopranos Sinéad White and Charlotte Herst, lutenist Konstantin R. Bozhinov, and harpsichordist Karen Wong perform works by Monteverdi, Purcell, and Schütz at St. Andew's-Wesley United Church.

      The Erato Ensemble presents the third concert of its season, The Song of Orpheus: Exploring & Expanding the Myth of Orpheus, at the Orpheum Annex.

      The Yarilo Contempory Music Ensemble performs music by John Taverner, Olivier Messiaen, Maurice Ravel, John Dowland and Benjamin Britten, Brahms, Haydn, and Vaughan Williams at Christ Church Cathedral.

      Ryan McAdams conducts pianist Yevgeny Sudbin and the VSO in a program of music by Mussorgsky, Ravel, Stravinsky, and Tchaikovsky at the Orpheum Theatre.

      MOVIES

      Free screening at Surrey's Strawberry Hills Cinema of the new Barbie film, which features a modern-day princess story and a superhero storyline.
