      American indie-pop band Echosmith (above) plays the Rio Theatre, with guests the Colourist.

      Blueprint Live and Scrape Records present Toronto metal legends Anvil at Venue, with guests Iron Kingdom and Omega Crom.

      Ohio-based indie-rock band Walk the Moon plays the Commodore, with guests the Griswolds.

      The Rogue Folk Club presents Irish quintet Goitse at St. James Community Hall.

      Jazz vocalist Nancy Newman is joined by pianist Michael Creber, bassist Rene Worst, and drummer Phil Belanger at Surrey's Northwood United Church.

      BENEFITS

      A fundraiser for African grandmothers caring for AIDS orphans, featuring home cooking and live music by a cappella soul singers What It Is. Event takes place at Trout Lake Community Centre.

      Open-house style evening at Capilano Herbal Apothecary features music and garden wisdom with Cease Wyss (aka the Indigenous Plant Diva), and teach-ins and performances from community organizers and gardeners Kelsey Cham Corbett and Clare Gendron. All funds raised go to support Secwepemc elder Wolverine.

      As part of World Water Day, the Vancouver Council of Canadians, Tseil-Waututh Nation, BROKE, and TankerFree BC present a celebration/demonstration to highlight the need to protect the Burrard Inlet from pollution. Event at New Brighton Park includes speeches and music by Holly Arntzen, Children of Tacaya, Ben West, and Gram Partisans.

      MOVIES

      Screening at Langara College of Lia Tarachansky's documentary about the fateful events of 1948 when the state of Israel was born and hundreds of thousands of Palestinians became refugees. Sponsored by Independent Jewish Voices and the Canada-Palestine Support Network.
