The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors the Vancouver International Dance Festival

      The 15th annual Vancouver International Dance Festival is already underway, but there are still tons of great performances to enjoy until March 28. The festival showcases contemporary dance artists from around the world at various venues across Vancouver.

      On Thursday to Saturday (March 19 to 21) at 7 p.m., catch Ferenc Fehér at the Roundhosue Exhibition Hall. The dancer-choreographer from Hungary presents Tao Te, which combines freestyle dance and martial arts.

      At the Roundhouse Performance Centre, see Out Innerspace & 605 Collective from March 19 to 21 at 8 p.m. Vancouver’s hottest dance companies will present a glimpse into two highly anticipated new works.

      Japan-based butoh ensemble Dairakudakan performs the Canadian premiere of Mushi no Hoshi—Space Insect. Choreographed by Akaji Maro, the piece features 22 dancers shape-shifting from humans to insects. Dairakudakan perform at the Vancouver Playhouse on Friday and Saturday (March 20 to 21) at 8 p.m.

      The following week will see performances by local troupe Kokoro Dance on March 22, the response and Manuel Roque on March 26 to 28. Roque, a Montreal-based choreographer, presents a duet between two virtuosic dancers: Ne meurs pas tout de suite, on nous regarde.
