Buddies in Bad Times Theatre presents Obaaberima at the Cultch (1895 Venables Street) from March 24 to April 4. Performances start at 8 p.m., with 2 p.m. shows on Saturdays and Sundays.

Written by Tawiah M’Carthy, Obaaberima follows a young man from Ghana imprisoned in Canada for committing a violent crime. On the eve of his release, he tells his cellmates a story, admitting that he is caught between worlds—gay and straight, black and white, African and North American.

Through storytelling, dance, and live music, Obaaberima chronicles a young African-Canadian’s journey across continents, genders, races, and sexualities.

Obaaberima is directed by Evalyn Parry and features live music by Kobena Aquaa-Harrison, set and costumes by Camellia Koo, and lighting by Michelle Ramsay.

Tickets start at $19 and can be purchased online in advance.
