Toronto mayor Rob Ford admits to smoking "a lot" of marijuana

He may or may not be hitting the crack pipe, but Toronto mayor Rob Ford is definitely a fan of the reefer.

Today (August 28), the rotund politician was all smiles when reporters asked him if he'd ever smoked marijuana.

"I won't deny that," he told the assembled scrum after speaking at a luncheon for the Cambridge Club. "I smoked a lot of it."

Ford did not give a time frame for his pot use, although in 2010, he told the Toronto Sun that he didn't use drugs.

He was charged with marijuana possession as well as a DUI in 1999 while in Florida. The possession charge was later dropped.

His completely unsurprising remarks come on the heels of those of Justin Trudeau, who recently admitted to toking up while an MP.

Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne announced today that she had also smoked pot, albeit 35 years ago.

In a poll released by Forum Research this week, over two-thirds of Canadians now support the legalization or decriminalization of marijuana.

I wish he was our mayor.

I would take a dope and crack smoking alcoholic buffoon over our smarmy, corrupt mayor any day. Ford was nearly kicked out of office for raising money for a charity while our mayor gets away with wasting millions transforming public spaces into private drive ways and transportation corridors for him and his rich friends.

If you can become mayor of the largest city in Canada and smoke lots of dope, how bad can it really be? Time to legalize the ganja!

@Moira, considering it's made international news outlets, I'd say a lot of people care that the mayor of Canada's largest city is on the record as a dope smoker. In case you hadn't notice, the sale and possession of marijuana is still very much illegal in Canada and the federal Conservatives has been pushing for mandatory minimum sentences for quite some time.

Until marijuana is legalized in this country, stories like this matter to a lot of people.
