Paul McCartney's "New" doesn't really sound like the Beatles
The Internet is very busy right now telling you that Paul McCartney's "New" song sounds like the Beatles. That's the headline at Slate.com, as a matter of fact, but Stereogum is more on the money with references to Pet Sounds (those horns, that "doot-doot" coda), ELO, and Jon Brion.
Previewing an album slated for October, "New" might be the sound of Macca eating his own tail. Or, at least, the sound of Macca grooving on decades of music inspired by Macca. Personally, I'm hearing Klaatu, Jellyfish, the 88, and any number of power pop smartypants milling around in there. And I'm certainly not complaining about it.
New (the album) sees Sir Paul working with producers Ethan Johns, Paul Epworth (Adele), Giles Martin (George's boy), and Mark Ronson.

Agree 100%. It is the sound of Paul doing"Beatle Paul." Catchy tune but less "Beatley" than 1000 other songs by others.

caleb: LOL. It does sound like he has taken The Rutles for his charming impression. How rather quaint of Sir Paul.
