The Georgia Straight proudly sponsors the Vancouver South African Film Festival
The Vancouver South African Film Festival comes to the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema (149 W. Hastings) April 10-12.
The event showcases feature films and documentaries that explore the culture, history, and politics of South Africa. Films on offer include Hear Me Move (trailer below), Beyond the Stereotypes: Short Docs, Behind the Lens, The Forgotten Kingdom, Four Corners, Khumba, Nelson Mandela: The Myth & Me, Angels in Exile, and Faan se Trein.
Tickets for most films shown during the Vancouver South African Film Festival are $15 ($12 for students). Tickets for opening film Hear Me Move are $20 and tickets for the opening gala itself are $45. Tickets can be bought online in advance.
All proceeds from the festival go to Education Without Borders, which provides educational programming in South African township schools.
